Scholarship Opportunities

National Deadline: February 1, 2024

The UK Summer Fulbright is for U.S. citizen freshmen and sophomores with a GPA of at least 3.7. The award fully funds a 3-4 week course at one of several summer institutes at universities across the United Kingdom.

Priority Deadline: January 2, 2025         Campus Deadline: January 16, 2025

The Boren Undergraduate Scholarship is for freshman through seniors who are U.S. citizens. The Boren provides students up to $25,000 to study abroad in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The applicant should have a broad interest in national security.

Campus Deadline: December 2, 2024

The Goldwater is for juniors or exceptional sophomores who are current U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or resident aliens. The Goldwater awards one- or two-year $7,500 awards to students who demonstrate strong evidence of contributing to the technological advances of the U.S. Applicants should be committed to pursuing a Ph.D in the research fields of mathematics, sciences, or engineering.

Campus Deadline: January 27, 2025

The Udall awards $7,000 to 60 U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or U.S. permanent residents who are sophomores or juniors committed to a career related to the environment, or to Native American sophomores or juniors interested in tribal policy or health care.

Priority Deadline: February 27, 2025

The Voyager Scholarship is for sophomores who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or DACA recipients with a 3.0+ GPA and demonstrated financial need who plan to pursue a career in public service. The scholarship provides up to $80,000 ($25,000/yr of financial aid for junior and senior year, $10,000 for a summer experience, and $2,000 annually for 10 years for travel) to assist students in pursuing public service.

Campus Deadline: November 4, 2024

The Truman is for college juniors who are U.S. citizens pursuing graduate degrees in public service fields. The Truman awards $30,000 towards graduate studies to students with a record of community service and a commitment to a career in public service. Public service includes government, uniformed services, public interest organizations, non-governmental research or educational organizations, public and private schools, and other public service-oriented non-profit organizations.

Campus Deadline: February 24, 2025

The Beinecke is for current juniors who are U.S. citizens. This is a merit- and need-based award of $35,000 to students seeking to gain a graduate degree in the arts, humanities, or social sciences. 

Final Deadline: May 20, 2024 for applicants who hold passports from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan or Macao

Priority Deadline for non-Chinese students: August 22, 2024

The Schwarzman is for U.S. and non-U.S. citizens under the age of 28 who are seniors, graduate/professional students, and graduates. The Schwarzman fully funds one year of graduate study leading to a Master's degree in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University, China. Open to students from any major. Prior knowledge of Mandarin is not required and Mandarin classes are included in the coursework. All coursework is taught in English.

Priority Deadline: June 6, 2024          Campus Deadline: August 19, 2024

The Marshall is for U.S. citizens with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.7. Seniors, graduate/professional students, and graduates are eligible to apply within two years of their undergraduate graduation. The Marshall fully funds one to three years of study leading to a degree at any British university.

Campus Deadline: AWARD NOT OFFERED FOR 2025-26

The Mitchell is for U.S. citizens under the age of 30. The Mitchell fully funds one year of postgraduate study in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Campus Deadline: August 19, 2024

The Rhodes is for U.S. citizens or non-citizens under the age of 24 who are seniors, graduates/professionals, or graduate students with a minimum GPA of 3.7. Non-U.S. citizens apply from their home country and may have an earlier deadline. The Rhodes fully funds two to three years of study leading to a degree at Oxford University, England.

Priority Deadline: June 24, 2024         Campus Deadline: August 26, 2024

The Fulbright is for U.S. citizens who are seniors, graduate/professional students, and graduates. The Fulbright fully funds one year of study or research in any country where there is a Fulbright Commission.  Some shorter term and English teaching programs are available. Please note the earlier deadlines for current Illinois graduate students.

Priority Deadline: September 5, 2024

The Gates Cambridge is for U.S. and non-U.S. citizens who are seniors, graduate/professional students, and graduates. The Gates Cambridge fully funds one to four years of study leading to a degree at Cambridge University, England. All applicants must apply directly to Cambridge as a graduate student and fill out the supplemental portion of the application to the Cambridge Trusts to be considered for the fellowship.

Priority Deadline: September 9, 2024

The Knight-Hennessy is for U.S. and non-U.S. citizens who are seniors or earned their undergraduate degree within the past four years. The Knight-Hennessy fully funds two to five years of study leading to a graduate or professional degree at Stanford University. All applicants must apply directly to Stanford as well.

Priority Deadline: September 16, 2024

The Luce is for U.S. citizens or permanent residents under the age of 32 who are young professionals, seniors or graduate/professional students. The Luce fully funds a one year internship in East or Southeast Asia for those with little significant experience within Asia.

Campus Deadline: October 3, 2024 (Your application to Cambridge University must be submitted separately)

The Churchill is for U.S. citizens in their last year of undergraduate studies or who graduated with their undergraduate degree within the last 12 months. The Churchill fully funds one year of graduate study leading to a degree (generally a master’s) in engineering, mathematics, and/or the sciences at Cambridge University, England.

Priority Deadline: March 3, 2025

The Quad Fellowship provides $40,000 for students who will pursue, or are currently enrolled in, a master's or PhD degree in a STEM discipline at any U.S. university. Citizens or legal permanent residents of Australia, India, Japan, the United States, or ASEAN countries who will be enrolled in a graduate program in fall 2026 are eligible to apply.

Priority Deadline: March 10, 2025 (Your graduate school application must be submitted separately)

The Samvid Scholars program is for U.S. citizens or DACA recipients who are seniors, graduate/professional students, or graduates with a GPA of at least 3.5. The two-year program provides $50,000 annually to support a full-time graduate program (MD, MBA, JD, MPP, MPH, or MS/MA in social sciences or STEM) in the U.S. for leaders who are driven to make an impact.
